Why Does My Shoulder Hurt from a Neck Injury?

Our muscles get tight around the injury as a defense mechanism. Our bodies are telling us not to use an injured muscle by tightening the surrounding muscles. This makes them so that they are uncomfortable to utilize. In the case of certain neck injuries, the delicate area is so close to the shoulder it can deceive you into thinking that you hurt your shoulder and not your neck. This type of pain starts with stiffness and malalignment in the neck and upper back, and the associated muscles.
